What a week it’s been weather-wise. So much rain! And today it’s been so windy as well. The plants are leaning at jaunty angles and there’s a lot of leaves and flowers on the ground. It all looks very sad. I finally managed to get outside between downpours just after 4 o’ clock this afternoon to take some pictures for this weeks Six so it’s going to be a quick one.
1. Some of the Clematis are having a last flurry including ‘Diana’s Delight’, ‘John Paul II’ (badly marked by the weather) and ‘Dr Ruppel’.
2. The taller Michaelmas Daisies have taken a hammering but Symphyotrichum novae-angliae ‘St Michael’s’ is still standing well. It’s normally covered with insects but the weather has beaten even them today.
3. Dahlia ‘Christine’ has finally flowered.
4. Stokesia laevis ‘Blue Frills’ didn’t flower last year but is making up for it now. It’s quite a pinky blue but beautiful. It’s been such a strong grower that I haven’t staked it. Mistake. I’ll try to gather it up tomorrow afternoon when it’s forecast to be dry.
5. Eupatorium fortunei ‘Pink Elegance’ (I think) is a back of the border perennial that quietly gets on doing it’s own thing. The foliage certainly brightens up the border. The SnS were quite fond of it earlier in the spring sadly.
6. I’m not a huge fan of Goldenrod but I like Solidago rugosa ‘Fireworks’ as it’s a bit more subtle. It’s going past it’s best now but is still standing so deserved to feature this week!
That’s it. Saturday is nearly over so I’ve just made it. There’s less rain forecast for tomorrow, especially in the afternoon so I’m hoping to get outside and have a clear up.

Love your Fireworks, which is new in my garden this year. The rain had it leaning severely here. Your reblooming clematis must bring you joy, and that variegated Joe Pye weed is spectacular.

The Clematis have done fairly well this year despite a lack of rain (until this week). I’ve had more rebooting ones than usual this year which is great

A pretty six. I have a wild form of the Eupatorium and the S&S seem to leave it alone. Can’t say the same for the Dahlias!

Love your Asters. I didn’t see the value of them before this year, but now they just go and go. And as you say, the insects love them. Think I will get some more interesting versions next year, your variety looks great!

I grow mostly the novae-angliae varieties as they seem to suffer less with powdery mildew.

Lovely six. My asters are looking the worse for wear today but still standing.

Very pretty colors despite the rain. Here too, the weekend is rather wet but with a blue sky hole from time to time (weird and so much better!). The gardening will wait!

Hello, I have that same aster, also standing up well. The one next to it has collapsed under rain attack. The eupatorium flowers are pretty, not seen those before.

I like that Stokesia laevis ‘Blue Frills’. Good to have something like that flowering now. And the variegated Joe Pye is interesting too. Sympathies for the rain and the need for more staking. I confess to sort of having given up!

I’ve run out of stakes now so the plants are at the mercy of the weather. Another weather warning of heavy rain and high winds for tomorrow 😢

Lovely 6. My eupatorium have been poor this year as they really haven’t like the dry.

Mine has only had a few flowers. I’m hoping for great things next year. I’ll have to give it the ‘you have two choices’ talk!
